The garden at Sandringham is mainly informal with wooded glades and walks and sheltered areas for camellias and magnolias. There are two lakes and a stream walk edged with water-loving plants. Many fine specimen trees include oaks planted by Queen Victoria and Queen Mary.
Edward, Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, purchased Sandringham in 1862 and employed William Broderick Thomas to re-landscape the gardens.
Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe was employed by King George VI to create a new garden to the north of the House after the Second World War.
H. M. The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh asked Sir Eric Savill to re-landscape the perimeter shrubberies and Woodland Walk in the 1960s.
