Herterton House has a garden that is divided into five parts, all within about one acre. It includes a Formal Garden of hedges and topiaries in green and gold, a Physic Garden of economic plants and a Flower Garden of traditional country garden flowers with a strong colour order, flowering from June to August. There is also a Fancy Garden with a parterre, terrace and gazebo, and lastly a Nursery Garden with a selection of open ground herbaceous plants from the garden collection. The garden is distinguished by its fine vernacular stone walls. Fine garden plans and a selection of photographs detailing the garden's early construction are exhibited in the gazebo.
The garden was made since 1976 in a 400-year old farmyard. The design was based along the lines of A Country Housewife's Garden by Lawson (1617), adapted to make a small 20th Century garden. Work is still proceeding.
